Tampere University Hall, Finland - Memorial Hall

Amusement Park

Prominent buildings to the east of the Tampere station are the University founded by Toivo Korhonen in 1961 and the Tampere Hall, a contemporary concert and congress hall by Sakari Aartelo and Esa Piironen in 1990. A few minutes' walk northeast of the Tampere Hall is the Kaleva cathedral by Reima and Raili Pietilä in 1966, an ascetic concrete construction which is still the subject of argument a quarter of a century after its conclusion. In the Liisanpuisto park is the Kalevala memorial, a colossal statuette figurine by Terho Sakki in 1973. At the east end of the square is Kauppakatu.
