One of the most important churches of Old Goa, St. Francis of Assisi is a magnificent church that one should must visit. It is in remainder of Saint Francis who came to Goa in the 16th century. Built in the Manueline architectural style, the church is built on laterite blocks. The church was originally built by the group of cells by Friars for their residence purpose and later in 1529, it was converted into a convent. The Portuguese Government closed the convent in 1835 and in 1964 an archaeological museum was established here. The museum has a large collection of artifacts, paintings and sculptures.
