This semi- evergreen forest of Kerala was declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1984. This place inhabited one of the oldest river valley civilization in India dated backfrom 4400 BC to 3700 BC. Endowed with lush greenery, evergreen plants and scenic trails, the sanctuary is home to some of the rare species of wild animals such as elephants, tigers, deer, bison, samba, tailed macaques, languor and many more. Besides, the Parappara Dam built across the Shenduruny and Kulathupuzha also lies in the sanctuary that adds to the divine beauty of the place.
