Shankaracharya Samadhi, Kedarnath, Uttarakhand - Religious site with hot water spring
Shankaracharya Samadhi is one of the most sought after places in Kedarnath. It is located slightly behind the magnificent temple of Kedarnath. Sri Shankaracharya was a renowned Hindu philosopher who is considered not only the renovator of Kedarnath but also made relentless journey to propagate Advaita philosophy.According to the chronicles of history it is believed that he came to Kedarnath and established the shrine in the 8th century. He attained Nirvana at a young age of 32. Starting from the Jyotirmath Ashram located at Badrinath, Shankaracharya took a journey to the ardent slopes of Kedarnath and this place is considered as his resting place. There is also a hot water spring created by Shankaracharya in order to help his disciples get relieved from the sufferings caused by extreme weather.
