Just opposite the Basilica de Bom Jesus is the majestic church of Se Cathedral Church located in old Goa. The church was built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese under Afonso de Albuquerque over a Muslim army that led them to conquer Goa. The victory was achieved on the feast of Saint Catherine and therefore the church is dedicated to her. In 1562, the actual construction of the church was started and the construction was completed in 1619. The cathedral is known for the Golden Bell and is said to be the largest one in Goa and the best in the world.
