Located around 19 km from Kollam, Sasthamokottais the largest freshwater lake in the state. It is also the major source of drinking water for the inhabitants of the town of Kollam. The lake is sprawled in a huge area of 375 hectares and the most prominent feature of this lake is that it neither gets frozen nor gets dried. Apart form its scenic beauty and charming surroundings, the lake also attracts the tourists due to an ancient Sastha Temple located on its shore. This temple is dedicated to Lord  Dharma Sastha and is a major destination for the pilgrims in the state.
