Ramu, Bangladesh - Buddist Temple

Scenic, Monuments

This is an archetypal Buddhist village, about 16 kilometer from Cox's Bazar, on the main road to Chittagong. There are monasteries, khyangs and pagodas comprising images of Buddha in gold, bronze and other metals inlaid with precious stones. One of the most appealing of these temples is on the bank of the Baghkhali River. It houses not only fascinating leftovers and Burmese handicrafts but also a huge bronze figurine of Buddha measuring thirteen feet high and rests on a six feet high plinth. The wood carving of this khyang is very fragile and sophisticated. The village has a fascination of its own.
