Perched at the top of the Prabal Hills, it is one of the most ancient forts of the Matheran region. The fort boasts of a historical significance as the great Maratha ruler Chattarpati Shivaji captured it from the Mughals and it was used to keep the treasures of the fort. Presently, the fort is in ruins but still its broken walls and damaged structure reflects the ancient history of the rulers of this wonderful monument. In earlier times, there were two gateways and eleven towers in the fort premises which were destroyed afterwards. However, some of the tower walls are still there that depict the tales of the bygone era of the Marathas.
