The Patna Zoo is also known as the Sanjay Gandhi Botanical and Zoological Gardens or the Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan and is situated close to the Bailey Road. One of the largest zoos in South Asia, it sure is a must-see for anyone even remotely interested in wildlife. In 1973, the park was inaugurated as a zoo and opened to the general public. At present, the zoo is home to more than 800 animals of over 110 species including tigers, leopards, crocodiles, elephants, the Himalayan black bear and the white peacock. A rare collection of fishes and a snake house with 5 species of the reptile are added attractions.
