Matho Monastery, Leh, Jammu and Kashmir - Architectural style
This is the only monastery under the Saskya monastic school. The monasteries have history of five hundred years. Located 26 km from the city, the monastery gives a beautiful view of the Indus valley. The monastery was established by Lama Dugpa Dorje, a famous Lama in the Buddhist Monarchy. Besides showcasing an amazing architecture, the monastery houses worthy marvellous collections of ancient thankas and especially some are in the form of mandalas. Another attraction here is a holy shrine to the guardian deities. This is a very nice attraction that helps understand the Buddhist ideologies and teachings and is a must to visit place in Leh.
