A former royal palace situated in Agartala, the Ujjayanta Palace is a two-storied mansion which housed the Tripura State Legislative Assembly till 2011. It was built by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya around 1899 and named by Rabindranath Tagore. Huge gardens of the Mughal era adorned by flood lights and fountains are worth seeing. The curved wooden ceilings, intricately crafted doors and magnificently tiled floors have an old world era feel to them. The palace is characterised by three high domes, with the central one being 86 feet high. Hindu temples dedicated to Lakshmi Narayan, Uma-Maheshwari, Kali and Jagannath surround the palace.
