Established in 1970 and situated in the heart of the city, the Tripura Government Museum portrays various facets of the glorious past of the state. Rare paintings and images, coins dating back to the numismatic eras of the maharajas as well as the terracotta sculptures and stone inscriptions are highlights of this place. It houses four main galleries – archaeological, Indian sculpture, painting and tribal culture. A reference library as well as epigraphical collections with 120 manuscripts is sought after by historians and tourists alike. The entry fee is a nominal Rs. 2/- per ticket and the museum is closed on Sundays.
