Among the high ranked wildlife sanctuaries in India, the Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary deserves the special mention. Hovering over an area of 97.82 sq.kms, it is located only 42 kms away from Jammu having Surinsar and Mansar River on both the sides respectively. This sanctuary is a home to different species of wildlife and birds located at the high altitude of 611m. Bird watching is the main activity liked by the visitors here as there are lots of different types of birds in this sanctuary and for bird watchers; it is advisable to be here during the months between March and May. This sanctuary is best for day-excursion and also for picnicking.
