The stupa of Sariputra is one of the famous places to search out for the ruins of Nalanda University. Sariputra was the favorite disciple of Lord Buddha and Sari was his mother’s name and also a name of the bird and putra means boy or son. He was also called Upatissa. The name came from his father’s name Tissa. It has a pyramidal shape with towers above the whole complex. During the heydays of Nalanda this stupa is bounded by pillared structures that provide a grand sight. It is result of seven consecutive accretions and is protected by seven layers of construction surrounding it. The neighboring stupas represent the important events of life of Lord Mahavira. Now days this place has become the famous place for tourists.
