Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple, Somnath, Gujarat - One of the 12 jyotirlings in India
The legendry sea-side temple of Somnath is the most popular religious site in the town of Somnath. Renowned as one of the 12 jyotirlings in India, the temple is highly revered by the devotees and the tourists all across the world. The most prominent attraction of the temple is the jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva which is aesthetically adorned by silver and gold embellishments and colorful fresh flowers. The temple is built in traditional Chalukya style and houses a huge stone Kalash weighing about 10 tones. The temple is said to be built by the Moon out of gold and had undergone several invasions but still it has retained its splendid glory and sanctity.
