Saint Catherine Monastery, Egypt - Monastery

Monastery

Being one of the oldest functioning churches established in Egypt, Saint Catherine’s Monastery is also famous for being the UNESCO World Heritage Site. UNESCO documented this site as the oldest functioning Christian monastery in the vicinity. The monastery was built for Emperor Justinian I. This was believed to be the place where Moses saw the flaming bush. An imperative historical manuscript is assumed to be preserved in the monastery. This is the Achtiname. Muhammad stated that this is the source of the monastery’s fortification. During the twentieth century more and more pilgrims throng the place; as the interest of the European Christian was at its height in 1270.
