The Monastery of Saint Anthony is a Coptic conventional monastery footing in a haven in the Eastern Desert of Egypt, in the southern province of the Suez Governorate. Veiled deep in the Red Sea Mountains, it is situated 334 km southeast of Cairo. The Coptic monasteries of St Anthony and St Paul are Egypt’s and Christianity’s said to be the oldest monasteries, and is among the holiest places in the Coptic religion. Actually, the origination of the religious society of St Anthony’s, concealed in the desolate cliffs of the Eastern Desert, marks the establishment of the Christian ascetic custom. The surrounding desert of these monasteries is simply famous for their magnificent beauty.
