History of Rajmachi
The fort of Rajmachi was originally buil by the Satavahans. Later Maharaja Shivaji captured the fort in 1657 and again it was conquered by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1704 from the hands of the Marathas. But Marathas soon recaptured in 1705 and in 1713 it was handed over to KanhojiAngre. The British took control over it in 1818 after the downfall of the Marathas. The town still houses the ruins of the big residential houses made by the British.
