Quezon City is the earlier capital and the most heavily populated city in the Philippines. Situated on the island of Luzon, Quezon City, popularly recognized to Filipinos as simply QC is one of the cities and municipalities that make up Metro Manila, the National Capital Region. The metropolis was named after Manuel L. Quezon, the former president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines who founded the conurbation and urbanized it to substitute Manila as the country's capital. Having been the former capital, many administrative offices are situated in the metropolis. The main campuses of two remarkable universities, the Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines, Diliman are situated in the city.
