Built in 1705 AD by GyalwaLhatsunNamkhaJigme, Pemayangtse Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim. Perched at an altitude of 6840 feet on a hill top, it is the most famous tourist attraction and the beginning point to the trek route of Dzongri. It is consisted of three storeys which are equipped with rich collection of ancient antiques, sculptures, scriptures and idols of Buddha. A beautiful and massive wooden statue of Guru Rimpoche is places on the third storey of the monastery. Moreover, it also acts as a venue for the famous annual monk dance known as Chaam.
