Panhala Fort, Kolhapur, Maharashtra - Massive edifice
Stretching over an area of about 7.25 kms and on the considerable height of around 850 meters, there lies other must see destination of Kolhapur city – Panhala Fort! Constructed in the late 12th century, the fort is situated at the distance of 18 kms from the city. This massive fort is having three giant sized strong double-walled gates but at present, only two gates are there in use. The fort came under the ruling period of so many dynasties among which the main were Shilahara dynasty, Bahamani Kingdoms, Shivaji, Devagiri Yadavas and many more. The fort is also perfect pick for trekking and also for those who are fond of capturing mind-boggling scenarios in their cameras!
