Nanda Devi Temple is a renowned religious attraction in Almora and is one of the great sacred sites of the Kumaon region. The temple is said to be devoted to the goddess of Chand Dynasty and is dated back to 1000 years. The shrine is characterized for its magnificent architecture built in Kumauni style. The shrine is built within the antechamber of Shiva Temple with a splendid monument adorned with a stone crown or amalaka. The walls of the premises are adorned gracefully by intricate stone carvings of various idols and figures. The temple hosts an annual Nanda Devi Fair in the month of September that beckons a number of tourists all across the country.
