History of Nagpur
Nagpur, the second capital city of Maharashtra, was founded by the Bhakt Buland. He was the Gond prince of Devgarh kingdom. The city was founded in the 18th century and was sited in the Chhindwara district. He the then decided to declare Nagpur city and was deciding to turn the city into civilized one just after getting influenced by Delhi.
After his sad demise, the work was carried out by his son named Chand Sultan and then in 1739, Chand Sultan got died. Then, the fights to capture the throne arouses and Raghuji Bhonsle, the Maratha Governor of Berar, put his entire efforts to make his son the ruler of the city. Likewise, the ruling power transferred from Gonds to the Marathas. After going through various chapters of battles and disputes, the power passes through various hands of Bhonsles and finally, they also lost the city in 1817 to the British. Then, in 1861, the city was declared as the Central Province and in 1867, Nagpur emerged as a trade center because of initiation of GIP railways. After getting Independence, Nagpur was declared as the capital city of Central Bharat State consisting of C.P. and Berar. Then, in 1960, Nagpur became the second capital city of Maharashtra.
