Believed to be established by Kush, the son of Lord Rama, Nageshwarnath Temple is an ancient temple, a must visit attraction in the city. According to the mythological legends, while taking bath in the Saryu River, Kush lost his amulet and couldn’t find it. A Nag-Kanya picked it up who fell in love with him and returned it to Kush. She was an ardent devotee of Lord Shivaand Kush built this temple for her. Nestled amidst dense forest, it is surrounded with a number of mathas and akhadaras that marks the city of Ayodhya. One of the most amazing things about this place was that even after the region had gone to ruins, only this temple survived till the rule of Chandragupta Vikramaditya and retained its glory since immortal.
