There is an interesting contemporary church to be seen in Munkebjerg, to the southeast of Odense. Munkebjerg Church in Østerbæksvej was the product of an architectural competition in 1942. The winning design was for an extraordinary polygon structure, but local confrontation prevented edifice of the minster until 1962, when another team of architects took over and formed a building similar to the original plan, the exceptional style having in the interim become usually accepted. The church is hexagonal, with the air of a colossal marquee, and has a free-standing tower. It was designed by Knud Lollesgaard, a well-known artist.
