The 52km circuit of Mt Kailash (6,714m) is one of the most significant pilgrimages in Tibet as well as in Asia. A religious haven since pre-Buddhist times, a hike here amazingly integrates the religious, cultural and corporeal dimensions of a trip to Tibet, which explains its mounting attraction. The well-compacted track around the holy mountain bypasses through lush alpine valleys linked by a haughty pass, the Drolma-la. Being able to convene pilgrims from across Tibet and other countries is one of the many charms of this walk.
