Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh - One of the 12 jyotirlings of India
Mahakaleshwar Temple is one of the most visited religious destinations of Ujjain which is also renowned among the 12 jyotirlings of India. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva who is supposed to be present eternal in Ujjain with his entire splendor. The temple is comprised of five massive storeys with its shikhara soaring high into the blue skies. The Shiva linga at the temple is believed to be emerged by itself and has currents of power from within. The idol of Mahakal present in the temple is known as Dakshinamurti, means facing to the south which is unique as compared to the other 12 jyotirlings. It is indeed a treasured place to be visited in Ujjain especially during the day of Mahashivratri when a grand fair is organized here that goes throughout the night.
