Located 5km east from Patna’s railway station, this site houses the archaeological remains of ancient Pataliputra of the Maurya period, dating back to 600 BC. The excavations include an elaborate assembly hall of 80 pillars where the Third Buddhist Council was held under Asoka, the foundations of the brick Buddhist monastery of Anand Bihar, Arogya Vihar where the science of ayurveda is believed to have originated and also the Durakhi Devi Temple dating back to the first century BC. Ajatashatru, Chandragupta and Asoka and all their relics are associated with this place.
