Home to a variety of bird species, the bird sanctuary in Kumarakom is spread across 14 acres of land and is a must visit attraction for the bird watchers. Nestled along the banks of Vembanad Lake, it is a bird watcher’s paradise and also attracts multitude of migratory birds such as egret, teal, cuckoo and water duck that flock here from the different parts of the globe. Some of the popular bird species to be seen here are waterfowl, heron, Siberian cranes, kingfishers, paradise flycatchers, golden-backed woodpeckers and so on. It also houses a ‘Baker Mansion’ which is said to be over 50 years old and is maintained by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from June to August.
