Just 3 km from the main city of Alleppey, there is a small village named Karumadi which was an ancient Buddhist site. Today, a number of devotees flock to the village to see the grand black granite structure of Lord Buddha which is known as Karumadi Kuttan. Built during 9th and 10th century, the statue serves as a reminder of remnants of Buddhist. Nowadays, a shrine has been constructed surrounding the statue to protect it from any kind of damage from outer sources.
