Kamakhya Temple, Guwahati, Assam - Religious belief and architectural grandeur
Hindus have the most sacred destination in Guwahati, Assam and is named as the Kamakhya temple. This magnificent and miraculous temple not only holds great significance among the Hindus but also it is important in the life of Tantrics too. This awesome temple is situated at the top of the Nilchal Hill and at the elevation of about 800 feet. Kamakhya temple is well located at the 7kms away from Guwahati. According to past history, prior temple was damaged by Kala Pahar and was reformed by Chilarai in 1565. Basically, in this temple different miraculous forms of Goddess Shakti are worshipped – Tripura, Sunderi, Bhuvaneshwari, Cinnamasta, Bagalamukhi and Tara.
