Jerusalem Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Israel - Tomb

Tomb

The chapel gets its name from the fable that Adam's skull was found under the Cross at Christ's crucifixion. On both side of the doorway are stone benches marking the site of the crypts of the first two rulers of the Crusader kingdom, Godfrey of Bouillon and Baldwin I. Their relics were unconcerned by Muslims in the 13th century, and the tombs themselves were broken up by obsessed Greek monks in 1808. The manifestation of the tombs is well-known from drawings made before their devastation: low columns supported encumber roofs which tire Latin inscriptions, which also were documented.
