Lying at a height of 4329 m at the banks of Lokpal Lake, Hemkund Sahib is an important pilgrimage for Sikhs as well as Hindus. Enveloped by seven snow clad peaks and glaciers, the place is bounded by a heavenly environment and divinity. The crystal clear water of the lake is fed by the glaciers of Hathi Parvat and Saptrishi peaks. It is believed that Guru Govind Singh meditated at this lake bank in one of his earlier births. The Hindu devotees believe that Lord Rama’s younger brother Lakshman meditated and recovered here after being wounded by Meghnath. People from faraway places come to this sacred destination in Garhwal to seek the blessings of God after taking an ardent journey in the mountains.
