The Hachiman shrines are the second most admired set of shrines in Japan after the Inari shrines. Hachiman is a popular goddess in Japan and is considered the Shinto God of war and the divine guardian of the Japanese people. These set of shrines are demeaned by the Minamoto clique of warriors in Japan. The deity is honored by peasants and fishermen and is thought to sanctify them with a good catch and harvest and also looks after the well being of the general public. It is assumed that the 15th emperor of Japan Ojin has been eminent to the position of God and is always accompanied by his mother empress Jingo, and the goddess Hime Gami.
