The Grossglockner High Alpine Road links the two provincial states Salzburg and Carinthia over the high mountain passes just in the neighborhood of the Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain (3798m). The road is principally for sightseeing travel and is closed during winter (October – May). This famed alpine road was constructed between 1930 and 1935 and connects the Austrian counties Salzburg and Carinthia, leading across the main alpine crest. Casing a distance of 48 kilometers the high mountain road goes up the mountain from Bruck at Salzachtal, ephemeral the so-called Hochtor to Heiligenblut to the highest mountain of Austria, the Großglockner (3.798 m).
