Grand Friday Mosque, Maldives - The Grand Friday Mosque- A Majestic Architectural Work

Scenic, Mosque, Monuments

The Grand Friday Mosque is the biggest mosque in all of Maldives. It features a majestic architectural work built in 1656. This mosque was erected under the rule Sultan Ibrahim Iskandhar. This religious building also houses an Islamic centre. Given the size of this construction, it can house up to 5,000 worshippers at a time. Neighbouring the Mosque is a huge coral stone Minaret that represents the commencement of round minarets in the nation and forms an interesting disparity with the pre-Islamic past of the country. The Friday Mosque has been well-liked both for its architectural distinctiveness, aesthetic value as well as for its holy implication for the locals.
