Giraffe Center is located in the residential region of Karen, towards the periphery of the Nairobi National Park. The center is home to Rothscild's giraffes which are now an endangered species. The Giraffe Center is housed in the Giraffe Manor which previously served as the residence of Jock and Betty Leslie- Melville. Visitors are allowed to feed the giraffes at the centre. The centre has been allegedly set up as a breeding centre for the dying out Rothschild giraffe, but now functions conservation/education programs for Kenyan school children. Hand feeding giraffes is an education in itself. The AFEW centre is also home to Giraffe Manor, a wonderfully maintained regal home, now an elite guesthouse.
