Best Season & Best time to visit Gangotri

Gangotri is situated at a high altitude amidst snow capped Himalayan ranges. Hence the climate here is quite pleasant in summers and chilly in winters. The best time to visit the place is from April to June and September to November. The temple is closed during the winters.

Summers in Gangotri last from April to May and are very pleasant. The temperature during summers usually doesn’t extends higher than 30 degree C and the nights are cooler with minimum temperature of 15 degree C. light woolen clothes are sufficient and this is the best time to enjoy the sightseeing in Gangotri.

Winter season begins from November and lasts till April. Winters are quite chilly with maximum temperature of 10 degree C. during the snowfall, the mercury may drops down to sub zero level and the entire region gets covered with sheet of snow. Generally a tour to Gangotri is not recommended during winters.

Monsoon here starts in late June followed with moderate rainfall. However, heavy downpours occur in late July and continue till mid September. The temperature varies between 15 degree and 8 degree C. Rain coats and warm clothes are must while planning a trip to Gangotri during monsoons.
