Floyfjell, Norway - Scenic Beauty

Scenic, Mountaineering

The Fløyfjell Tunnel is a road passageway in the metropolis of Bergen. The tunnel goes through the Fløyfjellet mount massif between Sandviken and Kalfaret. The twin-tube tunnel was constructed in the late eighties as part of the city's motorway system, and is part of the main route between Åsane and the rest of the city. Northeast of Bergen rises the Fløyfjell from which there are wonderful vistas of the township and the neighboring area, mainly in the early morning or when the sun is setting. The hill can be climbed either on foot or by means of the funicular from the Vetrlidsalmenning. From the upper station of the funicular, Fløyen, there are outstanding views of the conurbation and the coastal scenery, extending beyond the islands of Askøy and Sotra to the open sea.
