Located on the elephant island and 10 kilometres far from Mumbai, these caves are on the east of the city. Elephant caves consist of two caves which date back between 5th and 8th centuries. The first cave consists of a large group of five Hindu caves which include rock-cut stone sculpture dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Shiva. Whereas the other one has two small Buddhist caves. This place attracts lots of tourist all because of its artistry and sculpture. This place can be reached from Mumbai by water boats or ferry or any other mode of in-water transport that you may hire.
