Dunnottar Castle is one of the most reminiscent and spectacular castle of Scotland that is perched upon the stunning flat-topped rock with steep cliffs on three sides. This fortress dates back to 13th century and was the chosen place in Pictish times as the source of strength and retreat by Saint Ninian. This castle was graced by William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots and the Marquis of Montrose and was also the royal residence of the Earls Marischal, once one of the most powerful families of Scotland. The narrow strip is the only access path to the castle and is headland is also home to plenty of birds making this stretch a distinguished bird sanctuary of northern Europe.
