Copenhagen Round Tower, Denmark - Round Tower

Scenic

From Nørregade in Copenhagen's Old Town slender lanes lead into Fiolstræde, a parallel avenue with many bookshops and traditional dealers. In Krystalgade can be seen the Synagogue, constructed in 1833 in yellow blocks. Passing this the tourist will come to Købmagergade, a shopping road, with the Round Tower (Rundetårn) of 120feet high and 50feet in diameter, which was constructed as an observatory in 1642 and now houses a small collection of material associated with the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe. The podium, from the top of which there is a splendid panoramic vista of Copenhagen, is reached by an extensive spiral access ramp.
