Camoes Garden and Grotto, Macau - Macau's Oldest Parks

Scenic, Garden, Amusement Park

Camoes Garden and Grotto, or just Camoes Garden as well, is one of Macau's oldest parks. The park is also Macau's biggest, wrapping an area of nearly 20,000 square meters. Camoes Garden was initially the house of a Portuguese mercantile who enjoyed raising pigeons. His house served as a gorgeous milieu to the hundreds of soaring pigeons that he raised. From far-off, the marquees and edifice in the compound appeared like nests. After the death of the mercantile, his house was donated to the government; honoring the great Portuguese poet Luis de Camoes, which is where the name of the garden derives from.
