A grand gateway located in Fatehpur Sikri near Agra was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1573 after he defeated the king of Khandesh. The name Buland Darwaza means “High Door” and which is visible from a large distance. This most striking monument is approached by a series of steps and the structure of the Darwaza rises impressively. Built in red sandstone with decorations in white marble, calligraphic inscriptions from the Quran are found on its front and pillars. Thechattris on its top can be noticed which leave a great impression. The Buland Dawraza acts as the entrance gateway to the Jama Masjid Mosque in FatehpurSikri.
