Popularly known as Kohima Village, Bara Basti is among the largest villages in Asia. As per few Naga legends, Kohima Village holds great significance in the history chapters of Kohima. It is believed that this second largest village is an origin place of Kohima. Fine intricate wooden carvings, especially done on the main entrance gate – ceremonial gate, are the main attraction of this village. This gate is engraved with images of warriors, guns and also marks of prosperity. This village has seven gates and also seven lakes as per other legends. Therefore, this Bara Basti is one of the most visited attractions of Kohima.
