Initially, Archaeological museum was referred to Jardine Museum. It was mind-boggling museum founded by Mr. W.A.Jardine in the year 1910 with the motto to exhibit the collection of untied sculptures and also the damaged architectural artifacts. He used to get all these from the magnificent temples of Khajuraho and therefore, he gave shape to his planning and finally, the museum was constructed near the Matangeshwar temple. Jardine Museum was the name given to this museum till 1952 and later on, it got hand-over to the Archaeological Survey of India and got the name – Archaeological Museum! In 1967, the today’s edifice of museum was constructed and houses five galleries to display various artifacts.
