Culture of Amritsar
People
People of Amritsar region came under the influence of the teachings of Guru Nanak in the commencement 16th century. Bhai Lehna becomes a dedicated follower of Guru Nanak. He moralizes people on the lines of Guru Nanak. He lectured people on the lines of his maharishi. He rehabilitated Takhat Mal, the headman of the rural community. A community kitchen was also started and men from distant places used to feed here who used to come here to accept religious lessons.
Language and religion
Sikhism is the major religion in Amritsar. The city has a multi-religious civilization, where people belonging to dissimilar castes, communities, creeds, and religions exist in concord. People following dissimilar beliefs like Sikhism, Jainism, Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and many more exist here cordially. The most spoken languages in the town of Amritsar and in its nearby rural regions are Maajhi, which is a type of Punjabi language. In Amritsar, the mixed dialect of Punjabi and Maajhi is observed as the normal Punjabi.
