Al Faw, Saudi Arabia - Scenic Beauty

Monuments, Palace, Temple, Tomb

Cuddled under the sandstone crags of the Jebel Tuwaiq Escarpment on the western border of the Empty Quarter, Al-Faw was once a great trading centre, as well as an enactment post for camel convoys voyage the desert between Yemen and the Gulf. Al-Faw was at the height of its opulence from late in the 2nd century BC until early in the 1st century AD. It was palpably a huge city enclosed by 20mtr high walls, away from which lay fields of irrigated wheat. The conurbation appears to have had an equipped two-storey bazaar, a palace, temple, domestic houses and a number of tombs.
