Located only 10 km away from Lonavala, Lohagarh Fort is must-see attraction in Lonavala. Literally, the Lohagarh Fort means the Iron Fort and is placed on the Sahyadri ranges which divide the two basins – the Pavna basin and the Indrayani Basin. In 1564, the fort was constructed to play the role of prison but later on in 1670, Chatrapati Shivaji, the great warrior, to make use of this fort to a great extent. At an altitude of 1050m, this fabulous fort is situated with a very interesting and alluring archaeology, history and architecture. “Delhi Gate” is the main entrance to this massive fort and overall, three gates are linked to this main gate.
