Lamu is the biggesttownship on Lamu Island, which belongs to the Lamu Archipelago in Kenya. Rich in history, Lamu Township has been as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Lamu is all about laid back charisma and a relaxed atmosphere. Lamu, the oldest town of Kenya, was one of the previously Swahili settlements alongside the coast of East Africa. The harbour of Lamu has functioned over a thousand years now. Lamu was first mentioned in the writing of an Arab traveler Abu-al-Mahasini who came across anarbitrator from Lamu in Mecca in 1441. Much of the history was subjugated by Portuguese foray in 1506 and the Omani rule around the year 1813.
